Looking Back at Round 1 of UCS and Ligier JS CUP France

Our Race Weekend at Round 2 of the Ultimate Cup Series

After a promising opening round at Paul Ricard, we were ready for this second event at Magny-Cours. We learned a great deal during that first weekend, and although we still have a tremendous amount to discover in this category, every race represents another step forward.

The challenge is significant, but that is also part of what makes this adventure so exciting. We are motivated, determined to keep improving, and committed to raising our level of performance with every round.

Practice and Qualifying: Challenging Sessions, but a Strong Qualifying Result

Practice sessions got off to a difficult start, with very hot temperatures and an extremely slippery track. These conditions led to numerous red flags throughout both practice and qualifying. Fortunately, we avoided any off-track excursions and encountered no technical issues with the car.

Even so, the sessions were challenging, as we struggled to find the right setup to suit the drivers. Despite these difficulties, we managed to turn things around as the weekend progressed.

By the time qualifying arrived, we had made significant improvements and optimized the overall package, allowing us to secure an excellent 4th place on the starting grid.

The Race: A Difficult Start…

On the second lap, we were involved in an incident with another car, which ended up sideways across the track and blocked our path for several long seconds. By the time we were able to get moving again, we had lost a considerable amount of time and found ourselves far behind the rest of the field.

The incident also caused damage to our car, significant enough to affect our performance throughout the race. These issues made the drivers’ job more challenging and disrupted our pace, making any comeback even more difficult in an already highly competitive field.

Despite the efforts of the entire team to minimize the impact and keep pushing until the very end, we were unable to fight our way back into the leading group. We ultimately finished in 22nd position out of 35 starters.

Key Takeaways: A Frustrating but Promising Weekend

Despite the challenges we faced throughout the event, this weekend confirmed that we have the pace and the potential to compete at the front of the field. Our on-track performances, particularly in qualifying and during the drivers’ stints, demonstrated that we are capable of fighting among the top contenders.

The race incidents and setbacks we encountered undoubtedly limited our final result, but they do not overshadow the many positive aspects of the weekend. The team responded well, worked efficiently, and continued to make progress despite the obstacles.

We leave Magny-Cours with some disappointment regarding the final outcome, but above all with growing confidence for the remainder of the season. This weekend confirmed that we have all the ingredients needed to achieve strong results, and we will continue working hard to turn that potential into success at the upcoming rounds.
